Time Change

This time change has kicked my butt! The boys slept in unusually late today, and I totally forgot about the time change. By the time they woke up, they were just eating breakfast when they should be going down for their morning nap. Needless to say, I had to cut their morning nap short by WAKING THEM UP. I never wake up my kids, but I didn't have a choice. They were both pretty fowl all day, but a trip to Target seemed to help out. I managed to put them down at 815, and I hope they will sleep until about 730 tomorrow morning. If they do, we should be back on our schedule. The time change in the fall was worse than this one, but I still don't like it! I spent all night trying to get caught up on the things I couldn't do during the day due to all of the crying. It's now midnight and I'm exhausted. My sister is coming to visit this weekend and I can't wait! I hope to use the massage Eric bought me for Christmas...it's LONG overdue. This is one of the negative things about have such scheduled kids. I need to just get used to it!

Some Videos

Here are a few videos that Eric took while he was home and wanted me to post. Enjoy!

Brandon and his standin'

Brandon is getting stronger and stronger! He stands in his crib now, and pulls himself up on his walking toys. I'm beginning to wonder if he'll walk before Connor...hmmm. Connor likes to pull himself up on things and then let go to see how long he can stand by himself.

Ready to get out, MOM!
Looking outside...keeping watch on the neighborhood!

He's only 19.5 pounds! The jammies he has on in the above picture are 9-12 month size!!! It's so cute to watch him crawl and stand up because he's just so little. He's definitely filling out though. They are scheduled to get at least one more RSV vaccination at the end of this month. The dosage depends on their weight, so I'll be anxious to see how much he weighs on his ADJUSTED first birthday which is my due date of March 27th.

They enjoyed some homemade squash soup for lunch yesterday! I couldn't believe they ate it! The only ingredients were squash, milk, chicken broth, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Yummy and VERY healthy. Along with their squash soup, they enjoyed brussel sprouts. Yes...you read that correctly. My children LOVE brussels! I did put a little butter on them because even I won't eat them without butter.

Eric headed back to Iraq the other day. Sad day for us, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. He should be returning home a little sooner than expected. I'm getting my new kitchen floor on Wednesday and can't wait! I hope to sign a contract on the room addition within the next week or so. I'm excited to get started, but anxious about the cost as well as the hole that will be in my existing family room. It's going to be stressful, but it will be beautiful when it's completed and will add close to 300 square feet to our house. Eric and I picked out some wood flooring and I'm going to check out ceiling fans this week. Everything else will be picked out by our contractor. Don't worry, I'll take lots of pictures through out the entire process. I can't wait for the boys to have their own playroom so we can have our family room back to normal.

Yummy Recipe

Most of my friends know how controlling I am when it comes to the boys' diet. I think it's my responsibility to set a good example as well as lay the stepping stones for a very healthy lifestyle. My kids rely on me to make all of the decisions in their life! That being said, the boys like Nutrigrain bars now. They love to bite off the bar instead of picking up the pieces. Saturday, when I made it to Whole Foods, I searched for an organic cereal bar, but didn't have any luck. They all either have egg or nuts in them, or were processed with other nut/egg products. I don't want the boys to have high fructose corn syrup or partially hydrogenated oils. Unfortunately, anything with fruit filling in it also contains HFCS. Brandon's allergies really limit what they can have which is a good thing at times. I'm not willing to risk giving them anything processed with eggs/nuts just yet. Until he goes through allergy testing again (not until November) I'm going to play it safe. ANYWAY, I went on a mission to find a recipe for a nutrigrain-like cereal bar...AND FOUND IT.

Click HERE for the original recipe, but look below to see how I changed the ingredients. I used the original cooking directions though.

Ingredients

2 cups frozen fruit (any variety you may like)
1/3 cups applesauce
1 1/4 old fashion rolled oats
1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup brown sugar/white sugar blend, packed
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 stick butter, melted

They turned out super yummy! I used 1 cup blueberries and 1 cup cherries. I think I'll add a little wheat germ next time for some added fiber. Pumpkin will probably be the next filling I try. I'd like to find another option for the butter, but I'd rather them have butter than HFCS. I froze half and refrigerated the other half. We'll see how the boys like them tomorrow.

It's Official

Eric has been doing a lot of "career soul searching" lately. Originally, we were only staying in the military for 4 years, then he decided to make a career out of it, then we were moving to Germany, then he switch to the 82nd Airborne unit, then we managed to sneak in a set of twins, then we were moving to Georgia, and now things have changed once again. We've been doing a lot of talking about different options, but haven't said much to anyone since nothing is ever official in the military until it's in writing. However, Eric received the official email today. We are no longer moving to Augusta, GA in the fall and will stay here at Ft Bragg until at least 2011. He is going into what's called the Bravo Residency instead of the Perio Residency. Thankfully, we're staying here, but unfortunately we won't be here long enough to buy a bigger house. 1,000 square feet was perfect for just us and the pups, but adding a set of twins to our family has definitely cramped us! We're looking into putting a small addition onto the back of the house. We're thinking of adding on a 12 x20 sun room. We have to be very careful not to build out of the market value of the neighborhood. The sun room will become a playroom for the boys, and we'll turn our family room back into a traditional family room. We're having a tree removed tomorrow and are waiting for our contractor to get back with us about the addition as well as a new kitchen floor. I've been waiting for this new floor for 3 years now, and I think I'm getting a new sink and faucet too. YAY for me! I spend most of my time in the kitchen and need some new appliances and such.

Personally, I'm happy to stay here since I have friends and a good support network, but I'm bummed that we aren't moving into a bigger house. It's only for 3 more years, and then we'll most likely be moving on to a different duty station. It isn't normal to be in one place for so long, but I'm liking it. I'll be bummed BIG TIME if we end up staying here after he finishes his residency because that means we could have bought a bigger house. Oh well, that's part of living the military life I guess. So, to all of our Fayetteville friends...WE AREN'T LEAVING!

Crazy Kids

The boys seem to be doing new things every day. It's a lot of fun to watch them grow, yet a little sad at times too. They were oh so little when they were born and the days of walking and talking seemed so far away.

I've been working with Connor on walking, but he hasn't shown must interest. I figured he would walk when he was ready. Well...that day is getting closer and closer...

Since the boys' developmental appointment a few weeks ago, Eric and I have really been working with Brandon on his standing. You saw him in the video above, standing up at the baby gate to the kitchen...he pulled himself up without any help from us. Now that he's mastered the art of standing, he learned to do something else today...enjoy!

I'm going to have to be on full alert once Eric leaves! He's good at keeping an eye on the kiddos while I do my cleaning and my other chores. I have a feeling that bumps and bruises are coming our way! We think Brandon is going to be the mischievous one! I'm not sure what Connor's title is just yet, but he loves to steal toys from his brother!!!

The Fungus Among Us...

IS GONE! We had our annual termite inspection a few weeks ago and found out we have some "friends" living in our crawl space. I guess I wouldn't classify them as friends...more like FIENDS! We have a very serious mold issue under our house. Serious enough for 3 different inspectors to say, "I can't believe you all haven't been sick" Brandon has respiratory issues anyway, so I guess I'm surprised he hasn't been sick! Needless to say, we jumped right on getting some opinions and estimates. Thankfully, well kind of, our sump pump in the crawl space wasn't working properly, and our home owners insurance covered most of the mold removal and repairs. We'll have to pay some out of pocket since there's a $5,000 limit on the insurance, but every little bit helped. This area has been in a severe drought this year so I'm surprised we have moisture issues, but oh well. We spent the day in Raleigh so the mold guy could remove it all, lay down a moisture barrier, and then paint over the joist as well as install a fan to keep the moisture out. We all had a fun time in Raleigh and the boys were total angels...as usual. They even ate their lunch in the stroller in the Men's Warehouse while Eric was getting all kinds of new clothes. We're home now, getting ready to dive into some steaks and are looking forward to chilling on the couch after the munchkins are in bed.
